Regular Application Procedures

Please have the following supporting documents ready to upload  (in PDF) to the online application form, and select the appropriate programme from the dropdown menu:

  • A scan of your passport
  • A copy of your transcripts/list of courses taken and grades achieved 
  • An up-to-date copy of your CV/Resume
  • A letter of motivation* (See prompts below before writing your letter and clearly state which one you are answering/applying to!)
  • Pay the €25 application fee by credit card. 

    *Applicants should not use AI tools to write their motivation letters. The motivation letter is the most important part of your application and the admissions committee values genuine, personal insights written in your authentic voice. The UvA considers the use of AI as fraudulant. Read more about the regulations here.

Admissions prompts

Please read the information below before submitting your application. When submitting your document, please ensure that you mention which admissions prompt you are responding to.

Part 1: A letter of motivation of approximately 400 – 500 words stating your commitment and curiosity about the concept of sexuality and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach when studying the role of sexuality in different social and cultural contexts. Further, explain why you wish to participate, what you hope to learn, and your relevant educational and/or professional experience in the field of study.

Part 2: Practicing Sexuality Studies in a Changing World: A letter of motivation of approximately 400 – 500 words, please state your experience in the study of human sexuality, your specific interests within sexuality studies and how they are related to culture and society broadly. Please take a look at the modules of this course and detail why you chose to apply for Part 2: Practicing Sexuality Studies in a Changing World and what you hope to learn and how it will assist you in your own research or work.

Part 3: Critical Reflections on Advanced Topics in Sexuality Studies: A letter of motivation of approximately 400 – 500 words, please state your experience in the study of human sexuality, your specific interests within sexuality studies and how they are related to culture and society broadly. Please take a look at the modules of this course and detail why you chose to apply for Part 3: Critical Reflections on Advanced Topics in Sexuality Studies and what you hope to learn and how it will assist you in your own research or work. 

If you wish to apply for both part 2 and part 3, you can chose the prompt you prefer to answer. 

Early admission deadline

Students who require a Schengen Visa to study in the Netherlands are strongly advised to apply before the early deadline to ensure there is enough time to secure a visa appointment before the programme begins.

  • Deadline: Saturday 1 February 2025
  • Admissions decision: we aim to have a decision back to you as soon as possible, but by 28 February 2025 at the latest.
  • Payment deadline (tuition and housing) must be submitted within 2 weeks after being accepted in the programme.

Regular admission deadline

  • Deadline: Saturday 15 March 2025
  • Admissions decision: we aim to have a decision back to you as soon as possible, but by 15 April 2025 at the latest.
  • Payment deadline (tuition and housing) must be submitted within 1 week after being accepted in the programme.
