Credits

As a Summer Institute student you will either receive

  • an official certificate (non-credit)
  • or both a certificate and a transcript (credit)

with an official seal from the Universiteit van Amsterdam, provided of course that you meet all requirements.

Students who wish to earn credits receive, upon successful completion of the programme, an official transcript stating the courses taken, credits earned and grades obtained. The programme is the equivalent of a 6 European Credits (or 3 American credits) module if the following requirements are fulfilled:

  • active participation in classes totalling 50 student-instructor contact hours or more
  • successful completion of a final paper (of 6000 words or 15 pages)

A first draft of this paper (1500 words) must be presented and approved of before the end of the Summer Institute; the final version must be submitted and approved of no later than 1 September.

6 ECTS equals 150 hours (including student-instructor contact hours, reading, writing, assignments, and other activities).

The credits received for the courses taken at the University of Amsterdam can be transferred into credits at your home university through a credit transfer system. The study period at the Universiteit van Amsterdam will therefore be a part of the study at the home university. For more information on the credit transfer, you should contact your home university.

Please note that Nuffic Scholars are not able to take the course for credit.
