Note: It is only possible to apply for one scholarship per applicant per summer. Scholarships cannot be combined. 

  • U21/LERU Partial Scholarship

    Scholarship description

    • If you are a current student of a Universitas 21 network and/or LERU network university, then you may be eligible for a partial tuition reduction scholarship. Students studying at Dutch universities on these lists are not eligible for these scholarships.   
    • Scholarship amount: €400

    Important information

    • There are a limited number of scholarships available, and they are offered on a first-come first-served basis. 
    • Not all UvA summer programmes participate in this scholarship opportunity.

    How to apply 

    • Step 1: Check whether this scholarship is available for the summer course in which you are interested. You can do this by beginning the application for that course. If this scholarship option is listed in the application form, please indicate in the required field that you are applying for it. If it is not a listed option, then this course is not eligible for the scholarship, and you cannot apply for it. 
    • Step 2: Check if your home university is part of the LERU or U21 network. If it is, continue to the next step. 
    • Step 3: Once you complete steps 1 and 2, finalise and submit your application for the programme and scholarship. 
  • The Amsterdam University Fund (AUF Travel Grant)

    Scholarship description

    • The Amsterdam University Fund (AUF) supports international students by helping to cover a portion of their travel costs to attend a summer course at the University of Amsterdam.
    • Priority for this scholarship opportunity is given to University of Amsterdam alumni. 
    • Scholarship amount for European residents: €200
    • Scholarship amount for non-European residents: €400

    Important information

    • There are a limited number of scholarships available, and they are offered on a first-come first-served basis. 
    • Not all UvA summer programmes participate in this scholarship opportunity.
    • You need to supply extra documentation for this scholarship (listed below). 
    • Once the summer programme is over, you will need to prepare a one-page write up of your time in Amsterdam that will be submitted to the AUF committee. 

    How to apply

    • Step 1: Check whether this scholarship is available for the summer course in which you are interested. You can do this by beginning the application for that course. If this scholarship option is listed in the application form, please indicate in the required field that you are applying for it. If it is not a listed option, then this course is not eligible for the scholarship, and you cannot apply for it. 
    • Step 2: Write a one-page addendum to your motivation letter which states why you need the travel grant in order to participate in the summer programme.
    • Step 3: Once you complete steps 1 and 2, finalise and submit your application for the programme and scholarship. 
  • Summer Programmes Alumni Discount

    Scholarship description

    • Have you participated in a summer programme at the UvA before? If so, we'd be excited to welcome your application for another of our programmes! The alumni discount is valid for all summer programmes alumni (students and professionals) who would like to continue their education with us in Amsterdam. 
    • Scholarship amount: €100

    Important information

    • Not all UvA summer programmes participate in this scholarship opportunity.
    • You will need to indicate which programme you attended and in what year (listed below).
    • Once the summer programme is over, you will need to prepare a one-page write up of your time in Amsterdam that will be submitted to the summer programmes office. 

    How to apply 

    • Step 1: Check whether this scholarship is available for the summer course in which you are interested. You can do this by beginning the application for that course. If this scholarship option is listed in the application form, please indicate in the required field that you are applying for it. If it is not a listed option, then this scholarship is not eligible for the course, and you cannot apply for it. 
    • Step 2: At the beginning of your letter of motivation, please indicate which summer programme you are an alumn of and in what year you attended. 
    • Step 3: Once you complete steps 1 and 2, finalise and submit your application for the programme and scholarship. 
  • FWOS Scholarship

    Scholarship description

    • This scholarship is only available for applicants to the Advanced Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture and Society. 
    • The Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Seksualiteit (FWOS)  is offering two scholarships (with maximum value of €3000 per scholarship) to researchers in the field of sexuality studies who are Dutch citizens or full-time residents of the Netherlands. 
    • For a full description, please visit the FWOS website. An English description follows the Dutch. Applicants who are interested in this scholarship opportunity must contact FWOS directly for more application information. 
    • Scholarship amount: up to €3000* Final amount determined by FWOS
    • The deadline to submit the necessary documents to FWOS is 1 March 2023. 

    Important information

    • Please note this scholarship requires a 2-step application process: both to our office, and to FWOS, who's application deadline is shortly after the Early Admission Deadline. 
    • Applicants must be Dutch nationals OR full-time residents in the Netherlands. Applicants must be current PhD, post-doc, Master's student, or researcher with an NGO, researching a topic related to human sexuality.

    How to apply

    • Step 1: When applying to the Advanced Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture and Society, please indicate in the required field that you are applying for it. 
    • Step 2: Visit the FWOS website and download, fill out, and submit the application form. The link to the form can be found underneath the scholarship criteria on their website. Submit this document per their isntructions. 
    • Step 3: Once you complete steps 1 and 2, finalise and submit your application for the programme and scholarship. 
  • Scholarships from your home international office

    We recommend that all candidates contact the international office at their home university to see if there are funds available to support their summer abroad.

  • MENA Scholarship Programme (MSP) | Applications Closed for Summer 2024

    MENA Scholarship Programme overview

    • The programme is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the Shiraka programme and managed by Nuffic.

    Eligibility requirements for applicants

    • The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Scholarship Programme (or MSP) offers scholarships to professionals living and working in MENA countries.  
    • While scholarships are awarded to individuals, the need for training must be demonstrated in the context of the organisation for which the applicant works.

    The following courses are participating in the MSP scholarship

    Step-by-step eligibility check instructions

    • If you meet the eligibilty requirements listed on the MSP website, proceed with your application by:
    • Selecting the country of which you are a national and a resident. Each country has a different focus, and list of eligible programmes. Read the information on that website carefully. 
    • Scroll down to the University of Amsterdam heading for the list of participating courses. 
    • Please check that your application falls into one of the listed country focuses.
    • You can only submit an application for one of the listed programmes at the University of Amsterdam on the country-specific website. These courses have been approved within your country focus. It is not possible to apply for a course that is not included on your country-specific website. 
    • If you meet all the requirements above, you can continue by submitting your application. 

    Step-by-step application instructions

    • Complete the online application in DELTA, the Dutch Government Application portal. Note: you do not need to submit an application via our UvA application portal, only via DELTA. The form will be published early in September at the link below. 
    • Every application must include the following:
      1. A copy of your passport that is valid for the duration of the programme.
      2. A completed Employer Statement. You must download and complete this form
      3. A government statement if necessary (Check if you need one by visiting the country-specific website). If your country requires a government statement, you must download and complete this form.  

    Selection and nomination process by the university 

    • The Summer Programmes Office team will review all completed applications in Delta in the days after the deadline. Due to the high volume of applications received, only complete applications will be accepted.  
    • We may be in touch shortly after the deadline to request additional information: please keep an eye on your email at this time.  
    • You will be notified if your application has been nominated by the university in early November. 
    • Applicants will be notified about whether or not their scholarship application was succesful in December. 

    Scholarship value

    • These full scholarships cover participation in the programme, travel to Amsterdam, insurance, and housing (including a small daily expense stipend). The final amount is determined by the OKP Committee and administered by the university.

  • Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) | Applications Closed for Summer 2024

    Orange Knowledge Programme overview

    • The Orange Knowledge Programme is a Dutch global development programme, currently available in 38 countries. The programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    Eligibility requirements for applicants

    • This scholarship is for mid-career working professionals who are nationals of, living, and working in one of the listed countries
    • While scholarships are awarded to individuals, the need for training must be demonstrated in the context of the organisation for which the applicant works.
